Dwight W. Scott, Jr. is a founding shareholder of Scott Patton PC. Dwight brings a unique blend of administrative and legal experience to the firm, having over twenty years of combined administrative management and legal experience in the healthcare industry. Before private practice, Dwight worked in-house for a large hospital system where he maintained responsibility for various legal and administrative matters. Immediately prior to forming Scott Patton PC, Dwight worked for a large full-service law firm, where he was elected to the Firm’s Management Committee and headed up the Firm’s Health Care practice.
While Dwight serves many diverse practice areas, he focuses his legal efforts in matters affecting healthcare providers and organizations, including peer review, regulatory and administrative compliance, operations, licensure, litigation, risk management, medical malpractice and commercial disputes. He frequently advises clients on federal and state compliance issues, including Stark, Anti-Kickback, EMTALA and HIPAA compliance. Dwight is also a certified mediator. Some of his more recent work includes:
- Arbitration proceedings against large national health insurance carrier regarding improper reimbursements for care to enrolled beneficiaries.
- Investigation, coordination and counsel relating to billing investigation by the Office of Inspector General.
- Investigation, coordination and counsel relating to HIPAA and HITECH investigation regarding theft of documents containing protected health information.
- Investigation, coordination and preparation of response to state and federal agencies relating to an alleged EMTALA violation.
- Investigation, coordination and response to to state agency regarding alleged improper coordination of care to pediatric patients.
- Investigation and coordination of investigation regarding patient care issues involving the FDA, CDC and TDSHS.
